How can we help?
Simple, step-by-step answers — whether this is your first eSIM ever or you just need a quick fix.
Getting Started
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM card already built into your phone — there's no physical card to insert. You add a data plan by scanning a QR code, and your existing physical SIM (if you have one) stays untouched.
Do I still need my regular SIM card?
No need to remove it. Most phones can run an eSIM and a physical SIM side by side, so you can keep your home number for calls and texts while using Rihla's eSIM for data abroad.
Is my phone compatible with eSIM?
Most phones released from 2019 onwards support eSIM. Use our free device checker on the Compatibility page to confirm your exact model before you buy.
What do I need to buy a plan?
Just your phone and a Wi-Fi or data connection to complete checkout. Your eSIM and QR code are delivered instantly by email and in your Rihla account — no shipping, no waiting.
Can I use a Rihla eSIM together with other eSIMs on my phone?
Yes, as long as your phone supports multiple stored eSIM profiles — most modern phones allow several, with one active for data at a time alongside your physical SIM.
Installing Your eSIM
When should I install my eSIM?
Install it before you travel, while you're still connected to Wi-Fi at home. Your validity period and data only start counting once you arrive and connect to a network at your destination.
How do I install it on an iPhone?
Open the link in your confirmation email or your Rihla account and follow the one-tap install steps. If one-tap install isn't available, go to Settings, then Cellular, then Add eSIM, then Use QR Code, and scan the code we sent you.
How do I install it on an Android phone?
Go to Settings, then Network and Internet, then SIMs (the exact wording varies by brand), then Add eSIM, then choose Scan QR Code, and point your camera at the QR code from your confirmation email.
My camera won't scan the QR code — what now?
Make sure you're viewing the QR code on a different device than the one you're installing on — a screen can't scan itself. If scanning still fails, switch to the manual installation details included in your confirmation email.
I don't see a QR scan option on my phone — is there another way?
Yes. Every Rihla eSIM also comes with manual installation details (an SM-DP+ address and activation code) in your confirmation email, which you can type directly into Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Network, then Add eSIM Manually.
Can I install the same eSIM on two phones?
No — each eSIM can only be installed on one device. If you get a new phone, contact our support team and we'll help you reissue it (see Troubleshooting below).
Activating & Using Data
When does my plan actually start?
Your validity period starts the first time your eSIM connects to a network at your destination, not the moment you install it. That's why it's safe to install a few days early at home.
Do I need to turn on data roaming?
Yes. After installing, open your eSIM's line settings and make sure data roaming is switched on for it — that's what lets it connect to a local network abroad.
How do I check how much data I have left?
Log in to your Rihla account and open My eSIMs to see live data usage. On iPhone you can also check Settings, then Cellular, then your eSIM label; on Android, Settings, then Network and Internet, then SIMs, then your eSIM label, then Data Usage.
Can I use both my home SIM and the Rihla eSIM at the same time?
Yes. Set the Rihla eSIM as your data line for the trip, and keep your home SIM active for calls and SMS if you'd like to stay reachable on your usual number.
Can I top up if I run out of data?
Yes — top up an active eSIM anytime from your Rihla account without reinstalling anything. The extra data is added straight to your existing plan.
Troubleshooting
I installed the eSIM but have no signal — what should I check first?
Confirm the eSIM line is turned on, data roaming is enabled for it, and airplane mode is off. Then try manually selecting your network: Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Network, then Network Selection, then turn off Automatic and pick one of the networks listed in your plan, such as STC or Mobily in Saudi Arabia.
My phone says the eSIM installed, but I can't find it in Settings
Restart your phone — this refreshes the list of installed SIM profiles and usually solves it. If it's still missing, check Settings, then Cellular, for a profile that might be labeled differently than expected, or contact our support team.
I'm seeing an error that a mobile plan can't be added
This usually means the QR code was already scanned once, or the connection dropped mid-install. Reconnect to Wi-Fi and try again using the manual installation details instead of the QR code — this often succeeds where scanning fails.
My eSIM has said Activating for a while and won't finish
Turn airplane mode on for about 10 seconds, then off again, and restart your phone. This forces it to re-register with the network. If it's still stuck afterwards, message our support team with your order number.
I lost my phone or got a new one — can I reinstall my eSIM?
An eSIM can't be transferred between devices once installed, but contact our support team with your order details and we'll reissue a fresh QR code for your new phone at no extra charge, as long as your plan still has remaining validity or data.
I accidentally deleted my eSIM — what now?
Once deleted, an eSIM profile can't be restored on the same device. Reach out to support with your order number and we'll check your plan status and help you get reconnected.
Billing, Refunds & Top-ups
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and PayPal, plus your Rihla wallet balance if you've topped one up.
What happens if my eSIM fails to activate?
If we confirm your eSIM couldn't be provisioned or activated through no fault of your own, we refund you automatically — no form to fill out.
How do I top up an existing plan?
Open My eSIMs in your account, choose the plan you want to extend, and pick a top-up option. It's added directly to your existing eSIM, with no new installation required.
Can I get a refund if I don't use all my data?
Unused data on a plan that activated successfully generally isn't refundable, since the eSIM itself was delivered and worked as expected. If something went wrong on our end, contact support and we'll look into it case by case.
Do you charge in my local currency?
Prices are shown in US dollars at checkout. Your card issuer or PayPal may convert this to your local currency, sometimes with a small conversion fee from your bank.
Umrah & Hajj
Does it work in Makkah and Madinah?
Yes — our Saudi plans run on the STC and Mobily networks, with strong coverage at both holy sites.
Should I buy separate eSIMs for Jordan and Saudi Arabia?
Not necessarily — our Umrah Journey plan covers both Jordan and Saudi Arabia on a single eSIM, so there's nothing to switch between Amman and the holy sites.
Can I buy for a group traveling together?
Yes, our group order tool lets you buy multiple eSIMs at once and send each traveler their own installation link.
What if I can't get connected once I arrive for Umrah?
Check the Troubleshooting section above first — network selection, data roaming, and a restart solve most cases. If you're still stuck, our Arabic-speaking support team is available daily and can help you get connected quickly.
